We’re kicking off the year with great news!
Members of our team have published an article in Material Advances by the Royal Society of Chemistry, focusing on the unique cephalopod proteins, reflectins, which are key to light reflection and camouflage.
The study demonstrated that one recombinant reflectin sequence, R6, shows superior reversibility and faster assembly under pH variations, offering insights for the design of reflectin-inspired biophotonic systems with potential applications in sensors, adaptive optics, and dynamic displays.
Iana Lychko (co-first author) was also responsible for creating this amazing image to be the backcover of an issue for the Material Advances journal.
This work was funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (Portugal) through projects Sea2See (PTDC/BII-BIO/28878/2017), PROTEIOS (PTDC/CTM-CTM/3389/2021), and BioM2D (CPCA/15912/2022).
